INQUIRY LETTER

Definition
A letter of request, also known as a letter or letters of interesting candidates, will be sent to the companies. Letter of request is a letter from a prospective buyer to the seller requesting information about the products offered. With the offer of the seller will potential buyers will know the price, and the sale and purchase, and a description of the goods or services to be purchased. This is the purpose of the prospective buyer a written request to the seller.
Letter of inquiry is often an early stage of the business transactions. Through a letter of inquiry to ask a potential buyer or to request information about the goods or services to be purchased. In reaction, the seller explained the things he wanted to know the buyer, the buyer did finally order and business transactions as the top buying and selling process.
The inquiry is usually required as follows:

a. Name and type of product
b. Product specifications, namely; type, size, quality, capacity and others;
c. Unit price.
d. Discounts;
e. Method of payment from the buyer to the seller;
f. How to delivery of the product from the seller to the buyer, and
g. Ease of which may be obtained by the buyer, such as warranty and other

The purpose
To  ask catalog and other information and responding advertisement posted in Newspaper, magazines, on TV, exhibition.

Types of Inquiry Letter
1)      Personal status inquiry letter
The letters that are written by prospective employers for obtaining information about job applicants are called personal status inquiry letter. Employers write this letter to obtain information relating to the applicant’s personal and family background, ability, skills, honesty, character, integrity, quality of performance, fitness for job etc. Generally this letter is written to the referees mention by the concerned applicant. In response to this letter, the referees write a reply letter to the employer. This response letter may be favorable, unfavorable or neutral to the applicant.



1)      Business status inquiry letter

When a business enterprise writes letter to another business enterprise for collecting information about a prospective customer. This letter usually written for collecting information about financial capability, goodwill, nature of business dealings, honesty etc of a business enterprise to determine whether to establish business transactions with it. Responses of this letter may be either favorable or unfavorable.

Inquiry Letter of English Business Letter

Inquiry letter or letter of inquiry is a letter which helps a person to ask about things that are not known by the creator of the letter relating to the product, employment, funding, promotional materials, etc. The format of a letter of inquiry should contain detailed information and such that recipients are encouraged to respond and reply to the letter. Letters of inquiry are usually written in response to an advertisement or any other direct communication. In a letter of request for information you need to explain and excuse you write a letter of inquiry to clear.
     When writing a letter of inquiry we need to mention the detailed information about ourselves or detailed information about the creator of the letter of inquiry, where we work (if necessary) and the reason for what we need certain information. In a letter of inquiry, we must clearly mention the type of information we need.

     We need to mention our contact details, including the address, phone number, email address. It is necessary for the recipient so that he can contact us in response to our letter of inquiry. We need to thank those who have sent a reply letter of inquiry us. With our courteous attitude like this is expected to help us to get the information we need.


Task! Write a letter to one of your regular suppliers (you may use any name) in Jakarta and ask for their latest catalog, price list, and terms of payments. You may use your own name as Purchase Manager of a company.
